MISSION OF IJSSS:

Prospective authors are invited to submit manuscripts for possible publication in the IJSSS. The primary objective of IJSSS is to bring together multidisciplinary efforts in computational, empirical, theoretical and formal approaches in modeling semiotic processes, especially those that contribute to the design and synthesis of semiotic systems, such as biological evidences or evolutionary and philosophical frameworks. The frameworks and theories explored take into account recent developments from neurocognitive science, cognitive ethology, second order cybernetics, cognitive semantics, pragmatic linguistics, theoretical semiotics, biosemiotics and evolutionary biology. The journal will publish original research into the design and synthesis of semiotic processes in virtual and embodied-situated biological and artificial systems, including theoretical and experimental research and technological applications.

IJSSS is a key reference for a community of researchers, from different backgrounds, interested in the study of modeling semiotic processes in biological and artificial systems. The journal offers an intense collaboration from empirical studies and theoretical frameworks toward a deeper understanding of semiotic process and therefore an integrated vision of its synthesis in artificial systems. On computational modeling of semiotic processes, the journal deals with theoretical and experimental research and also technological applications.

RECOMMENDED TOPICS:

Topics to be discussed in this journal include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Meaning

- Sign and symbol grounding

- Semiotic systems

- Sign production, computing, interpretation, communication

- Emergence and evolution of semiotic processes

- Embodied and situated semiotic processes

- Semiotic dynamics and complexity

- Adaptive advantage of iconic, indexical and symbolic systems and processes

- Evolution of information interpretation systems

- Biologically inspired models of semiotic systems

- Umwelt, semiotic landscapes and niches

- Collaborative semiotic processes and applications

SUBMITTING TO IJSSS:

Prospective authors should note that only original and previously unpublished articles will be considered. INTERESTED AUTHORS MUST CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/development/author_info/guidelines submission.pdf PRIOR TO SUBMISSION. All article submissions will be forwarded to at least 3 members of the Editorial Review Board of the journal for double-blind, peer review. Final decision regarding acceptance/revision/rejection will be based on the reviews received from the reviewers. All submissions must be forwarded electronically to ijsss@artificial.eng.br.
